“There are places I’ll remember, all my life but some have changed. Some forever, not for better, some have gone and some remain. All these places have their moments with lovers and friends I can still recall. Some are dead and some are living. In my life I’ve loved them all.” This Beatles song is a classic and the song instantly popped into my head when Heather handed me her list of the 30 places she had lived, telling her life story.
She also had short descriptions of when it was in her life and who else was living there which in some cases led to why she lived there. I love this visual snapshot of a full life that sometimes was a bit nomadic. Does this sound like you?
Heather had some of the exact photos of the places where she had unpacked her boxes but in many cases google street view was called in to help. I wrote about how to use this helpful tool before. You will also find a handy list of how to collect your memories in that same article.
Thirty different places is a big number – all that packing and moving! I encourage you to make a list of all the places you’ve lived. I did and the 19 places surprised me. Now I need to add those critical details. Then I can take the information and populate this graphic which has been turned into a template. I can create one for you too!
Collecting your memories can be a big job. I shared this idea of creating a list of places lived at the Victoria Family History Conference and the Inspired Living Summit. Do you know people who would like a presentation about collecting memories? Get in touch with me.
