“This has been a process of discovery and of archiving and reliving the past, the story of my parents, their families, and my own past. For my children, it is family history, a keepsake and a remembrance. For my siblings, it was an equally emotional process and receiving a copy of the book was a big deal, and to be explored immediately. For them a welcome dive into our shared past and revealing in many ways. They were impressed with the information, and very appreciative of the effort on my part to do the work and see it through.
I received many messages of thanks from a variety of family members as they read through what was documented, with more than a tear or two of nostalgia, reliving our past. A few were overwhelmed about the end product and the details. I gave copies to my remaining aunt and uncle, both contributors and they were honoured that their story would live on, well beyond their lifetimes.
It is clear to me that as we get older, our hunger to remember our shared history and curiosity about the past becomes ever greater.”
